It is a highly sought-after non-surgical procedure for stimulating hair growth on the scalp.
Mechanism
It uses your own blood platelets (blood cells) to stimulate new cell growth. It has certain growth factors which stimulate the hair cells, improving their density.
Procedure
Depending on the area treated, a volume of blood is taken. This is usually between 10 to 30 ml. The blood is centrifuged for 15-20 minutes. Once the concentrated platelets are separated from the whole blood, they are injected into the skin of the scalp. The procedure takes around 1-1.5 hrs.
What should you expect post-treatment?
The patient can have mild swelling or redness for a few hours. There is no pain after the procedure and the patient can resume his/her normal activities soon after the procedure.
3-4 sessions are required for visibly good results at a gap of 4-6 weeks.
Who all the candidates for PRP?
Any patient can undergo PRP therapy who wants to improve on their hair density. It is not recommended for patients on anticoagulation therapy or autoimmune conditions.
